A new holistic treatment has been launched by Jennifer Young Wellness to help those facing mental and physical health challenges.

The auricular (ear) acupuncture ritual, training for which is offered at the Jennifer Young Wellness Clinic, is an additional offering for spas wishing to help clients manage mental health issues.

The treatment is said to be beneficial in managing anxiety, depression and improving sleep. In addition, clients report it helps them to cope in situations that they would previously have found very stressful.

It follows the roll out of Young’s holistic alternative to the drug Ozempic, for weight management, at Champneys last year.

“By tackling underlying hormonal imbalances, auricular acupuncture is an invaluable tool for easing stress and managing mental health – whether this be for employees or guests.”

The holistic alternative to Ozempic

Last year Young created a 50-minute auricular acupuncture ritual described as the holistic alternative to Ozempic – the popular drug for weight loss.

The treatment was created to help spas support clients’ weight-loss journey.

Auricular acupuncture works on the same principles as acupuncture, but needles are inserted into the ear only.

It has been described by the director general of the World Health Organisation as “probably the most developed and best documented, scientifically, of all the microsystems of acupuncture.”

Young says clients are intrigued by the treatment's uniqueness, which makes it a valuable addition to any spa menu

Speaking exclusive to European Spa, Young said: “The weight-loss ritual experience focuses on stimulating 12 key acupuncture points. These correspond to 14 hormones related to hunger, metabolism, pleasure and satiety.

“Different points correspond to different hormones, meaning the treatment can be easily adapted to help with mental and physical health challenges.”

Young devised the unique system while working with further education colleges. “I was working on a project for 11,000 learners and staff; an intervention to support their mental health,” she said.

“For this, I trained in auricular acupuncture. As I learned, I began to understand its power to help ease pain and all kinds of hormonal imbalances, as well as to relieve stress.

“Clients are intrigued by the treatment’s uniqueness. It’s a simple way to empower therapists to advance their skills – and to help colleagues who might need an endorphin release.”

Training for the auricular acupuncture consists of a three-day in-person programme.
