The Global Wellness Institute (GWI) has unveiled its inaugural GWI Initiative Micro-Trends report.

Offering wellness professionals a unique opportunity to explore emerging trends, the data explores 30 key sectors of the global wellness economy.

Free to download, the 128-page publication marks the first time GWI has brought together sector-specific intelligence in one comprehensive resource.

Developed in collaboration with the chairs of GWI’s diverse Initiatives, the report shines a light on the latest industry developments.

These range from cutting-edge AI applications in healthcare to a growing backlash against popular wellness practices such as ice baths.

Susie Ellis - Chair, Global Wellness Institute

“While there are many lists of wellness trends these days, there were no lists of wellness trends in these specific categories, and we thought there should be.”

Susie Ellis

Chair, Global Wellness Institute

“Trends are signals; often, they serve as leading indicators for where things are heading and can reveal new markets, products or services before they actually emerge. When you follow them intelligently, you stay ahead of the curve — not behind it,” said GWI chair Susie Ellis.

Highlights from the report include:

  • AI driving healthcare innovation (AI Initiative)
  • The emerging legitimacy of cryotherapy in mainstream wellness (Cryotherapy Initiative)
  • New concerns about microplastics affecting brain health (Mental Wellness Initiative)
  • A growing “ice-bath backlash” as consumer sentiment evolves (Hydrothermal Initiative)
  • African wellness tourism on the rise, from safari spas to plant medicine retreats (Africa Wellness Initiative)
  • Personalised gut health nutrition (Nutrition for Healthspan Initiative)
  • Reviving interest in psychedelic therapy, with provocative takes like “Make Ibogaine Great Again” (Psychedelics & Healing Initiative)
  • Designing for wellness through harmonic architecture (Wellness Architecture Initiative) and brain-friendly buildings (Wellness Communities & Real Estate Initiative)

The Micro Trends report explores the benefits of ice bathing and the backlash against it

“I have always found that asking people what trends they are seeing can spark lively conversations about the future that can become a competitive advantage,” said Ellis.

“We hope this look at what is now emerging across so many wellness sectors and topics will provide a valuable new tool for the industry.”

The GWI Initiative Micro-Trends report is available now as a free digital download via the Global Wellness Institute website.
