‘Skinimalism’ is an approach to skincare and makeup routine that adopts a minimalist, back-to-basics approach. Featured on Pinterest’s 2021 Trend Predictions Report, research by The NPD Group suggests that UK consumers have firmly embraced this attitude in their skincare buying habits.

“Face cream, facial cleanser and facial exfoliators are the three sub-segments where consumers have gone back to basics, while some ‘additional steps’, such as eye treatments and masks, have declined in importance in facial skincare as consumers have ‘skinimised’ what products they’re using,” says Emma Fishwick, account manager, NPD UK Beauty.

We spotlight five of the best new ‘skinimalistic’ facial care products launching in April.

Skin Regimen Recharging Mist

Developed to protect skin from damaging blue-light exposure and indoor pollution, Skin Regimen’s new skin-protecting mist is antioxidant-rich and formulated with biotech fermented extract as well as the brand’s unique Longevity Complex.

Comprising 99.2% natural-origin ingredients, Recharging Mist features a 100% natural rose and lavender aroma. Refreshing and moisturising the skin-boosting product helps to soothe dry and tired looking skin that is dull and lacklustre.

The mist is designed to be applied directly to the skin or over makeup, throughout the day.

Olverum Pure Radiance Facial Oil

Olverum Pure Radiance Facial Oil has been designed to calm irritation, plump fine lines and reduce the appearance of pores and blemishes.

Bakuchiol, said to be the first natural retinol alternative, firms, plumps and balances the skin tone, working with rosehip and cacay oils to maximise its effects while preventing the dry, harsh breakouts traditional retinol products can cause.

Patchouli extract, a phytocannabidol that activates dermal CBD-2 receptors, helps to calm habitually held expressions, which can emphasise the perception of ageing.

Guinot Sérum Age Immune

Guinot has added to its anti-ageing Longevity product range with the launch of Sérum Age Immune.

Formulated with a range of powerful active ingredients, the serum is designed to deliver long-lasting, anti-ageing results.

Sérum Age Immune ingredients include Immune Repair Complex to repair damaged cells, particularly DNA damaged by light-induced ageing. Immune Complex protects cells responsible for the skin’s immune system; hyaluronic acid plumps the skin, smoothing wrinkles; and rambutan leaf extract stimulates the synthesis of elastic fibres.

It is formulated with cocoa seed extract; satsuma mandarin peel to hydrate, boost and renew the skin; and zinc oxide for natural minerals that provide a physical barrier, helping protect skin from sun and blue light damage.

The moisturiser also contains Lilikoi (passion fruit) seed oil, which is a rich source of vitamin C and includes antioxidants that improve the appearance of dry skin exposed to environmental stressors.

Borgo Santo Pietro

Borgo Santo Pietro has introduced Manuka Nutri-Mask to its Seed to Skin Spa in Tuscany, Italy.

Developed by the spa’s own team, the face mask contains more than 55% manuka honey, a traditional health remedy from New Zealand, and is an intense, anti-ageing treatment that deeply hydrates, nourishes and balances the pH of dry and dehydrated skin.

Natural skin-brightening and anti-oxidant vitamin C and minerals also benefit acne-prone, scarred and pigmentated skin. After regular use the skin is said to appear brighter, softer and more supple.
