The Mandrake, a boutique hotel in London’s Fitzrovia, has opened its immersive new spa space, Damu.

Designed by Tala Fustok Studio to reflect the hotel’s essence of shadow and light, the 700sqm space holds a maximum of 12 guests at any one time.

The focus is providing a transformative journey of rejuvenation and renewal, and an intimate personalised experience for guests.

Damu has an exclusive partnership with Marina Abramović Longevity Method treatments and programmes. The brand’s specialist supplements drops, created by Dr Nonna Brenner, are available to spa and hotel guests.

The drops are endorsed by Serbian performance artist Marina Abramović as her secret to longevity. The Mandrake will offer both the Immune and Energy Longevity Method for use in room and in the spa.

Dr Nonna will host her specialist energy sessions in the hotel, which can be booked privately.

“With longevity dubbed as the leading trend in spas and wellness for 2025, Damu is offering treatments and programmes to help people live longer and healthier lives.”

Wavess Origin Pool

Damu is the first spa to offer the immersive, multi-sensory immersive Wavess Origin Pool.

The experience combines low frequency vibrational therapy enhanced by sound and chromotherapy with water haptics as guests float in zero gravity.

Entering through a water curtain, visitors step into a circular pool, where they experience floating as music and vibrations provide a physical and mental massage. The experience is enhanced by immersive soundscapes, vivid colours and visuals.

Damu partnered with immersive design studio Metaspheric, alongside wellness technology company Wavess, to create the experience.

The Damu spa concept

The spa is named after Damu, the Sumerian god of healing and transformation. As an intermediary of divine power, Damu empowered physicians to cure diseases and heal the sick. In Mesopotamian mythology, Damu symbolised transformation and transition.

With this as its guiding principle, the spa embodies restoration, renewal and complete holistic health.

There is a sleek reception area and changing rooms with matte black mosaic tile detailing.

In the Tranquillity Room, architect Bas Smets has curated a selection of healing plants so guests are enveloped in lush greenery and natural light.

The spa’s dimly lit mud caves have micro cement walls and rugged textures. Here guests can partake in the Damu Ritual featuring steam rooms, experience showers and rain showers.

With a maximum capacity of eight, guests in the mud rasul room will be invited to use various types of mud, algae and salt scrubs, with each designed for a certain area of the body. Mud is sourced from the Austrian Alps and enriched with medicinal plants.

Spa treatments and therapies

In two treatment rooms, therapies on offer include the BBL Moxi laser machine by Sciton, which treats multiple skin conditions during the same treatment.

There is also Skinpen Collagen Stimulation therapy and Dermalux LED phototherapy, alongside infrared therapy mats.

Uniforms are a bespoke design for Damu from INLINE London, towels and spa linens are by BC SoftWear and treatment beds are supplied by Spavision. The spa uses Book4time software.

About the Mandrake

The hotel and spa is founded and owned by entrepreneur and art collector Rami Fustok.

“With Damu, we invite guests to embark on a transformative journey that will leave them feeling euphoric and rejuvenated,” Fustok says.

“Damu embodies our commitment to innovation and excellence and provides a one-of-a-kind spa offering, where advanced treatments blend cutting-edge technology with timeless traditions.

The Mandrake has 33 rooms and suites and is recognised for its striking art, culture and design.
