Champneys Resorts appoints new group general manager

Adam Lawson joins the team with more than a decade of senior leadership experience

Champneys Resorts has appointmed a new group general manager to steer operational leadership across its eight hotels, resorts and city spas.

Adam Lawson has been promoted from within the brand, having previously held management roles at both Tring and Henlow Grange.

He brings more than a decade of senior leadership experience in the hospitality, spa and wellness industry to the role, with particular expertise in luxury operations and guest experience.

In his new group managerial position, Lawson will  strengthen service culture and enhance Champney’s wellness programming.

“In my first six months, my priorities include strengthening our service culture and driving team development across the business,” said Lawson, speaking exclusively to European Spa.

“I will spearhead strategic development, leading on service innovation and performance optimisation.

“As well as heading up operations across all Champneys resorts and ensuring brand integrity, I’ll be guiding the organisation through a pivotal period of transformation and international expansion.”

In May, Champneys announced it is set to open a new spa in Spain, at Gran Marbella Resort & Beach Club – its European debut.

The brand, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2025, will use its signature approach to create a unique new wellness experience in Andalusia.

“Champneys’ upcoming expansion into Europe marks a significant chapter in our journey,” said Lawson. “This strategic growth will enhance our brand presence and help to elevate the global standard of luxury wellness hospitality.

“This initiative offers an opportunity to extend Champneys’ rich heritage and wellness ethos into new markets.”

Hinting at further European expansion plans in the future, Lawson added: “My goal is to ensure that each international location embodies our core values, service standards and signature wellness philosophy, while adapting to the cultural nuances of each destination.”

Career background and industry experience

Lawson has worked for some of the UK’s leading hotel and spa operations, including Donnington Valley Hotel and Spa within the Vineyard Group and Harbour Beach Club in Salcombe, where he oversaw pre-opening and launch.

He also spent five years at the renowned Danesfield House Hotel and Spa, progressing through leadership roles in food and beverage, and events.

In his most recent role as regional general manager of Tring and Henlow Grange, Lawson led strategic alignment efforts and drove service enhancements across multidisciplinary teams.
