Buxton Crescent Hotel and Spa appoints new deputy GM

Steve Ewing has been named as the new deputy general manager at Buxton Crescent Hotel and Spa, in historic spa town of Buxton in the Peak District.

Ewing will be working with general manager Deirdre Billing to develop all operational aspects across the spa, F&B and front of house.

Originally from Co Tyrone in Northern Ireland, Ewing began his career as leisure club and spa manager at Macdonald Portal Hotel.

He has also held leisure and spa director positions at Champneys Mottram Hall, Carden Park and Norton Grange in Manchester. Most recently, Ewing was general manager at the Hale Country Club and Spa in Altrincham.

As well as the 81-bedroom Buxton Crescent Hotel and Spa, Ewing will oversee nearby sister property the Old Hall Hotel.

“Buxton Crescent Hotel and Spa is a hidden gem in the middle of the Peak District, offering an exceptional guest experience,” said Ewing. “I am excited for what the future holds and working hard to make it happen.”

Ewing is also a UK Spa Association board member, supporting the industry with training and development, wellbeing initiatives and challenges across recruitment.

“We are thrilled to welcome Steve to work with the team at Buxton Crescent, to help develop all areas of the hotel and spa,” said Billing.

“Steve has a great deal of experience in spa and wellbeing in a luxury environment, and a true understanding of our vision for the future.”

Buxton Crescent completed a £78m refurbishment project, which was 17 years in the making, in 2020.

Ensana Buxton Crescent opened on October 1, 2020 following a full restoration. The 1,858sqm spa utilises the therapeutic, mineral-rich waters that run through the town.

As well as eight treatment rooms the spa has a fully refurbished Victorian-era thermal pool that is chemical-free and filled with heated, mineral-rich water.

There is also a relaxation pool and an indoor-outdoor rooftop pool, a bio-thermal sauna, an infra-red sauna and an aroma steam room. The spa’s gym is equipped by Technogym.
