The Spa at Blythswood Square Hotel in Glasgow has reopened following a seven-figure refurbishment.

Facilities in the spa include Scotland’s first snow shower from Metzger MSK, a Himalayan salt room, a bathhouse experience combining seaweed bathing with sound therapy from ishga, and a rejuvenated hydrotherapy suite by 100 degrees.

The spa’s relaxation pools, crystal steam room and hydrotherapy pool have also been upgraded as part of the refurbishment, as have its nine treatment rooms.

The seven-figure development is IHG Hotels & Resorts’ biggest investment in a spa refurbishment in the UK.

Four wellness journeys

Guests can choose from four wellness journeys designed to leave them feeling either relaxed, detoxed, invigorated or recovered.

Each journey is designed to help the user enjoy the thermal experiences and best achieve a range of outcomes, including feeling clear-headed, detoxified, energised or physically recovered.

The spa partners with ishga and Oskia for its wellness rituals and spa treatments. It employs 30 therapists and was designed by an in-house spa and design team, in close collaboration with the wider IHG design team.

“We’re taking the guesswork out of the spa journey, combining hot and cold thermal experiences with manual treatments, aromatherapy and visual therapy to take care of our guests wellness needs,” says Finlay Anderson, spa director, Kimpton Blythswood Square and area spa director, IHG Hotels & Resorts.

“Guests will be able to map out their thermal journey and link it to a treatment, and to post-treatment nutrition during their visit.

“The concept takes influence from the Scottish Hebrides and the wellbeing benefits of nature, while the team’s experience has allowed us to develop meaningful, multi-sensory experiences.”

Wellness developments at Kimpton Blythswood Square

Late last year, Kimpton Blythswood Square opened Thaw, a new Winter Spa Garden featuring an open-air hydrotherapy hot tub, luxury saunas and a steam room.

In the spring, the hotel  also launched a new wellness concierge and ‘Shroom service’, swapping traditional minibar offerings to give guests access to adaptogen-packed functional mushrooms.

Bookings are now being taken ahead of the spa’s opening to the public on July 10.
