Riad Elegancia debuts with boutique spa

The latest addition to Cenizaro Hotels and Resorts group, Riad Elegancia has made its debut in Marrakech.

The sister property to La Maison Arabe, which opened in 1998, the boutique property is situated in one of the Medina’s alleys close to the Bab Doukkala mosque and vibrant Jemaa el-Fna square.

The Espace Raha Oriental Hammam and Spa is located in the building’s basement and offers facilities including a traditional Moroccan hammam made from marble, Elegancia being one of the few riads in the city to offer this experience on site. Spa guests will meet in the steam room, which has a fountain made with more than 12,000 tiny tiles called Zellej.

As well as a relaxation area and fitness room with mats for rooftop yoga, there are also two treatment rooms, including one for couples, featuring treatment beds made by local carpenters. Therapists will use natural, locally sourced products such as black soap, ghassoul, clay and Kessa body scrub in therapies.

The spa’s signature 45-minute hammam therapy will include a Kessa body scrub as well as an orange blossom-and-honey body masque with hair care and body modelage using Argan oil.

Following a major refurbishment in 2020, Riad Elegancia offers one of the most authentic riad experiences in the city. Set over three levels and built around two patios, the building remains loyal to its Arab-Andalusian architectural roots with traditional features running throughout the property including a striking chandelier in the atrium.

Using a distinctive Moroccan palette of Majorelle blue, yellow, pink and green, Riad Elegancia’s rooftop features a swimming pool that is heated in winter months for guests’ comfort. Other facilities include a sundeck, a whirlpool and a restaurant serving home-cooked food.

Each of the 11 en-suite bedrooms features a hand-carved or painted cedarwood ceiling, with nickel silver and chiselled copper features and colourful tiles in geometric patterns.

Riad Elegancia guests can also use the facilities at La Maison Arabe, which is only a short walk away and is set amongst olive groves just outside the city in the Palmeraie suburb.
