The Grand Hotel Belvedere is set to open in Switzerland, in the Alpine village of Wengen, in December.

Then, in January 2025, the hotel will open an 800sqm wellness destination, created in partnership with skincare expert Susanne Kaufmann.

The spa, nestled between the Grand Hotel Belvedere’s two buildings, is a brutalist space, made of concrete, and will have a minimalist and mineral-heavy design, created by the Saint-Lazare creative studio.

As well as four treatment rooms with treatment beds by Gharieni, there will be a hammam, supplied by Effe.

The heated indoor and outdoor infinity pools, by Vivell, are inspired by Japanese onsen. There will be two saunas, also by Effe, and a relaxation room with mountain views.

Spa furniture is supplied by WB Form Swiss Company and Mattiazi. Towels, robes, and spa linens are from Garnier Thiebaut.

“We are delighted to have partnered with Susanne Kaufmann. Her commitment to using regional and sustainable practices echoes Beaumier’s own approach to hospitality.”

Susanne Kaufmann has been creating skincare powered by nature, using Austrian alpine ingredients, since 2003.

Each product is developed using plant actives locally sourced in Austria, Switzerland and Germany.

The spa’s treatment menu, which is yet to be revealed, will take a holistic approach, harnessing both science and nature.

“The noise of everyday life often distracts us from the essential, so it is important to find some peace in order to refocus,” said Kaufmann. “Our spa treatments will serve to solve skin problems by strengthening the skin’s ability to protect against environmental stress.

“At the heart of every treatment lies our team of highly skilled therapists. They will select techniques to create a truly bespoke experience, from acupressure and facial massage to ultrasound and effleurage.”

Capturing the essence of the region

Outdoor wellness offerings will include trail running in the snow, climbing the surrounding glaciers and ski hiking.

In warmer months, the spa will offer forest yoga sessions, mountain biking and canyoning. The spa has access to an outdoor trail winding through the hotel’s private forest.

Spa manager Aysel Arif has almost 20 years’ international spa experience and was team leader at the spa at Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai for 12 years.

“Our treatments will capture the essence of the region and be complemented by a focus on nutrient-rich cuisine,” she said.

The five-star Swiss hotel, which is accessible only by the Wengernalpbahn cog railway, has 90 rooms.

The property, Beaumier’s first foray into the Swiss market, is surrounded by gardens and private forest.

It was redesigned by Complete Works Studio and Gallery in collaboration with Clavien & Associés, and has two cascading buildings that face the Jungfrau mountain summit.
