This year’s Global Wellness Day (GWD) saw the official formation of the Saudi Arabian Wellness Association (SAWA), a new industry body that aims to promote, develop and celebrate wellness in the country.
Launched by AlMaarefa University, the association was founded by a team of local and international wellness thought leaders, medical experts, entrepreneurs and senior executives, led by dentistry professor, researcher and wellness advocate Professor Ebtissam Al-Madi.
Founding members include Stephan Wagner, wellness director for the upcoming AMAALA project in Saudi Arabia; Dr Mohammed AlBattal, founder and CEO of Kadoon Company; and Richard Jordan, corporate wellness manager at Delta Fitness.
Promoting the wellness industry
Based on the tenets set out by the Global Wellness Institute (GWI), the SAWA will work alongside both public and private sectors to promote the wellness industry. It will also build relationships with government bodies, such as Office 2030 and the Ministry of Health, to shape policy and amplify the importance of wellness on both a collective and individual level.
